Dripping Springs 6, Kerrville Tivy 0: Parker French (12-0) threw a three-hit shutout Thursday night, striking out eight, as Dripping Springs jumped ahead in a Class 4A area-round playoff series.
The Tigers (25-6) scored four runs in the fourth inning, helped by first baseman Jarret Scott’s solo homer. The series resumes tonight at Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio.
San Antonio Stevens 1, Westlake 0: Rene Solis recorded the victory as San Antonio Stevens (20-7) shut out Westlake (23-11) in the opening game of a 5A playoff series. The best-of-three series, which opened at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio, will resume on Saturday at Westlake.
Hays 4, Nederland 0: Pitcher Sam Breyfogle (6-2) threw a complete-game shutout, striking out eight and allowing only three hits as Hays blanked Nederland in the opener of a 4A playoff series, which will resume Saturday at Montgomery High School.
The Rebels (23-7) widened a 1-0 lead with a three-run fourth inning, when second baseman Ruben Miller delivered a bases-loaded, two-run single.
Corpus Christi Carroll 3, Anderson 1: Corpus Christi Carroll scored two runs with the help of a misplayed infield pop-up, beating Anderson (23-13) in the opener of a 5A playoff series.
Carroll (28-6) trailed 1-0 before scoring twice in the fourth inning. The Tigers added another run in the sixth, when Malcolm Cepeda hit a solo homer. Cameron Lauck had an RBI groundout for Anderson.
The series will resume on Saturday at the Northside ISD athletic complex in San Antonio.
Lake Travis 6, Boerne Champion 3: Brad Kuntz (8-3) settled down after a three-run first inning, striking out 16 Boerne Champion batters as Lake Travis won the first game in a 4A area-round series.
Grant Gibbs hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the Cavaliers (23-14) while Adam Yacek drove in the winning run in the third. Game 2 will take place tonight at Lake Travis.
Hendrickson 3, Cibolo Steele 1: Trevor Seidenberger struck out 11 while running his record to 11-0, as Hendrickson (30-3) slipped past Cibolo Steele in the opener of a 4A playoff series.
The best-of-three series will resume tonight at New Braunfels High School.
Hutto 4, Alamo Heights 3: Ethyan Lenz picked up the win as Hutto defeated Alamo Heights in a one-game area-round playoff at Westlake High School. The Hippos advanced to the third round of the 4A playoffs with the victory.
Port Neches-Grove 2, San Marcos 0: In the opener of a 4A area-round series at Bryan High School, Port Neches-Grove shut out San Marcos. The teams will resume the series on Saturday morning at Bryan High.
Johnson City 8, Rogers 6: Laramie Blackwell picked up the win as Johnson City (21-5) topped Rogers in the opening game of a 2A area round series.
Dylan Carter drove in three runs for Johnson City while Carter tossed a complete game, closing out Rogers with two scoreless innings.
The best-of-three series resumes Saturday at Round Rock High School.
SoftballCedar Park 8, Tomball 1: Shortstop Megan Schade drove in four runs to power Cedar Park (23-12) past Tomball in the opener of a 5A regional quarterfinal series.
Timberwolves starter Kate Mayfield (14-7) allowed eight singles, but Tomball (24-8) was scoreless until the sixth inning. Megan Schade’s sister Abigail added two doubles and an RBI for Cedar Park, which pulled away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The best-of-three series resumes tonight at Tomball.
Liberty Hill 6, China Spring 1: Kourtney Bevers (11-1) allowed only one hit and struck out seven as Liberty Hill won the opener of a best-of-three Class 3A regional quarterfinal series.
The Panthers (25-12) scored three runs in the first inning, helped by two China Spring errors.
Siera Sproul was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for Liberty Hill. Teammate Chelsey Leath added a triple and a run scored.
The series resumes tonight at Temple High School.
