Tuesday will host two big basketball games as the control of a couple area districts will be on the line.

At Westlake, the Chaparrals will play Bowie. Westlake, the top-ranked team in last week’s American-Statesman basketball poll, is 20-4 this season while second-ranked Bowie is 20-2. The two teams haven’t lost in district play yet and are tied atop the District 25-5A standings.

Westlake is led by All-Central Texas guard Cody Doolin and forward Gus Leeper, who has committed to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Bowie’s Conner Robinson is averaging 16.1 points per game and is shooting an unbelievable 73.9 percent from the field.

The Bulldog/Chaparral showdown isn’t the only marquee basketball game that will be played on Tuesday.

Georgetown will welcome Cedar Park into its gym for a girls basketball game that could put the Lady Eagles into the driver’s seat in the race for the District 16-5A title. Georgetown (22-2) beat Cedar Park (25-3) on Dec. 8.

St. Edward’s commit Maddie Wheeler, the reigning district MVP, will lead Cedar Park against a Georgetown squad that features four-year starter Crystal Atwood.

Other good basketball games on Tuesday include:

• Manor v. Del Valle (boys basketball): The defending district champions head to Manor to play a Mustang squad that is a perfect 4-0 in district play.

• Hendrickson v. Lake Travis (boys basketball): The Hawks and Cavaliers, who finished in a three-way tie with Killeen for the district crown last year, will do battle at Lake Travis.

• Anderson v. Akins (girls basketball): Akins will try to bounce back from a two-point loss to Westlake against a Anderson team that is also fighting to stay alive in the district’s playoff picture.

• Travis v. Reagan (boys basketball): The two teams will need a victory to keep up with district-leading LBJ, which is at Lanier on Tuesday.

  -Dripping Springs at Crockett (girls basketball): The victor of this clash will wake up on Wednesday in second place in the District 26-4A standings.
