East Texas teams stay put in poll

The Associated Press high school football polls remained virtually unchanged for area teams with Monday's release.

Longview (8-1) kept its No. 3 ranking in Class 4A after a 45-0 win at Hallsville. Lake Travis (8-0) and Denton Guyer (8-0) stayed in the top two spots as Lake Travis received 22 of 25 first-place votes. Guyer had the other three.

In 3A, Gilmer (8-0) kept all 25 first-place votes for No. 1 following its 66-14 win at Spring Hill. Carthage (8-0) held the No. 2 spot after its 27-3 win at Jasper, which received three votes for the top 10 despite the loss. Jasper (6-2) has lost to Gilmer and Carthage.

Arp (8-0) garnered 20 first-place votes for 2A's No. 1 spot after its 55-0 win over Frankston. Daingerfield (7-1), which beat Jefferson 27-6, received one first-place vote and stayed at No. 3. Bushland kept its No. 2 ranking.

Class A Cayuga (6-1) had a bye this past Friday, but held its No. 6 spot. Alto (8-1) shut out Cushing 40-0 to stay at No. 9. Tenaha (9-0) received two votes following a 34-0 win over West Sabine.

John Tyler (8-0) moved up a spot from ninth to eighth in the 5A poll after the Lions' 34-6 win over North Mesquite. Lufkin received three votes for the top 10.

Cedar Hill remains No. 1 with all 25 first-place votes in 5A. Albany, one of five Class A teams receiving at least one first-place vote, got the largest share (18) to keep its top ranking.
