After Longview defeated then-5A No. 2 Allen to open the high school football season, I and many others figured the Lobos were on a crash course to at least the state semifinals and were the favorite to win the Class 4A Division I state championship.

While Longview is probably still the odds-on favorite with its returning talent, the Lobos showed they aren't unstoppable when they lost 28-14 to Lufkin on Friday night.

That was the biggest shake up in the polls this week, as two-time defending 4A Division I state champion Lake Travis took over the No. 1 spot in the poll with 23 of the 25 first-place votes.

One of the other top votes went to No. 2 Denton Guyer, which moves up from No. 3, and Longview still kept one -- based on the merit of its win over Allen, I'm guessing. Longview fell to No. 6.

Waxahachie moved up to No. 5 after a dominant win over Lancaster, and Highland Park moved up a spot to No. 8.

The new face in the 4A poll was Denton Ryan, which gives District 5-4A two top 10 teams along with Guyer. The Raiders have been scoring at will this year behind the QB play of Scotty Young, who's on pace to shatter Graham Harrell's state record for single-season touchdowns.

Class 5A pretty much stayed the same, as the top six spots remained unchanged. Euless Trinity dropped out after losing to Allen -- the Trojans' second straight loss after losing to No. 1 Cedar Hill the week before. The only new team was former No. 1 Katy, who climbed back into the poll at No. 10.

In Class 3A, Prosper dropped a spot from No. 7 to No. 8, and district mates Celina and Argyle are both receiving votes. Graham checked in at No. 10 behind quarterback/brother's-coat-tails-rider Case McCoy.
