Authorities have recovered a body from Lake Travis they believe is the man they searched for this morning, but are waiting for medical examiner’s officials to confirm the identity.

This morning, divers searched for a man who had gone missing after riding on a boat with his brother Sunday night, according to Tom Harvey, spokesman for Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Just after 9 p.m., near Emerald Point Marina, the two men rode in a Sea-Doo Sportster that hit a floating barrier designed to break wave action, Parks & Wildlife officials said.

The pair was not riding on a jet ski as previously reported by media, they said.

One brother was treated on the scene with injuries and refused medical transport, Parks & Wildlife officials said. But early this morning, he was admitted to University Medical Center Brackenridge for treatment of multiple injuries, including cuts and bruises, Wade said.

The other brother — described as a white male from the Austin area — was still missing this morning. Relatives had been informed, Harvey said.

The Travis County sheriff’s dive team began searching in Lake Travis at 5:30 a.m. today. The Lower Colorado River Authority and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and STAR Flight also assisted Parks & Wildlife game wardens who are investigating the incident.

Wade said this was the first time in more than 30 years that a body was recovered in a dive operation after a boat fatality.
