Top-ranked Lake Travis (3-0) eyed revenge for a 14-10 loss to seventh-ranked Aledo (1-2) for a year. On Friday night, the Cavaliers got it with a runaway 62-35 win.

"They snapped our streak last year," Lake Travis senior Colin Lagasse (right) said. "It's not as big as winning state, which we did, but we got our chance for revenge and we jumped on it. They're a great team, too. I'm not trying to shove it in their face at all; it just feels really good to win this game."

Lagasse, who opened the season at quarterback before an injury sidelined him for much of the opener against Westlake and all of last week's win over Hendrickson, returned to the team at running back while moonlighting on defense, carrying the ball 13 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, junior Baker Mayfield started his second straight game at quarterback for the Cavaliers and put up his biggest performance to date with 27 completions on 37 attempts for 464 yards.

Though Mayfield didn't figure in last year's loss to Aledo, he said he felt the pressure to get a different result this season.

"It was the biggest win of the season," Mayfield said. "In the offseason, we talked about Westlake, but we were really stressing winning this game against Aledo because we feel like we're the two best teams in Texas."

Lake Travis opened up a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 26-yard scoring run by Lagasse and a 7-yard touchdown reception by Griffin Gilbert (left), who finished the night with seven receptions for 116 yards and four scores.

Aledo briefly turned the tide with an 18-play drive that resulted in a 6-yard touchdown run by Johnathan Gray, who has committed to Texas.

Gray would score again following a stop by Aledo, this time on an 82-yard run to tie the game at 14.

Gray would finish the game with 29 carries for 263 yards and four receptions for 47 yards.

Gray also scored four touchdowns in the game, breaking the state career touchdown record with 148.

But it was all Lake Travis from that point as the Cavaliers outscored the Bearcats 21-11 to close out the second half, and kept building on that lead the rest of the night.

The other beneficiary of Lake Travis' offensive attack was receiver Zach Austin (right), who caught seven passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns, and has emerged as Lake Travis' leading receiver this season with 19 receptions for 413 yards.

With the monkey off their back, Lake Travis players said they were excited to be able to move forward and focus on a fifth straight championship.

"I couldn't be happier," Gilbert said. "Aledo is such a great team, and I have no doubt they're going to go on to win the 4A DII championship.

"They're a powerhouse, a good match up for us, and it was great to come in and get this win out of the way."

Lake Travis travels to Kerrville to face Tivy at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16.
