If you are one of the many families in search of a quiet picnic hideout, where you don’t have to fight for a table or search for a parking spot, then this park is perfect for you. This is a very small park that is a bit out of the way, so not many people are ever there. There is an upper parking lot that over looks lake Austin where you will be entertained with the boats pulling water sport fans of all kinds. Also located at the top parking lot is a pay phone and the restrooms. However, last time checked the toilets were screwed shut, so either go before getting there or be ready to have to find a bush. You will find up top, there are some sunny tables and some shady ones, all have grills.

If you want to have a bit larger of a gathering there is a very nice, shady table with a grill located in the lower parking area that’s the size of two tables. There isn’t any ant hills around it to step in and it has a wonderful tree that hangs over the entire table. It’s set up on a concrete slab and surrounded with a wonderful rock wall. This table is the closest one to the steps that lead down to the water if your going to want to swim or supervise children from a shady place.

There is also the combination of both sun and shade with the water included. Bring the whole crew to the lower parking area and park your cars right next to the tables. Open up the trunks, let the tail gates down and have your self a family gathering. One table in the shade and one in the sun. Both have grills and are the closest to the water. On a side note, the steps to get into the water are down a ways from the tables. If all you have is big kids that don’t need steps then run and jump right in. This part of the river gets very deep, very quick. If you are swimming out a ways keep in mind boats can’t see you as well as you can see them, so bring something bright in color like a float.

To get to this park your going to want to take 620 to Quinlan Park Rd. and fallow that down till you get to Selma Hughes Park Road then drive till your there. The road is narrow and old, but keep going you will get there eventually. Enjoy your family time.
