Travaasa Destinations celebrates the opening of the all-inclusive Travaasa Austin, the first of a new collection of experiential destination hotels with special mid-week rates.

Travaasa Austin is located on the northwest edge of the city, surrounded by 200 acres of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve overlooking Lake Travis. The property features 70 guestrooms scattered over a relaxed, campus-style layout, allowing resort guests to enjoy the natural habitat in an unobtrusive setting. Guests can choose between Hacienda rooms, which include flat-screen TVs, or Spa Casita rooms, which are complete with yoga mats and stretching ropes, and are ideal for unplugging.  All guest rooms offer a deck or patio.

Activities at Travaasa ranges from equine experiences at the on-site stables, cowboy poetry and storytelling at the fire pit, an outdoor challenge course, fitness classes, yoga sessions, and spa treatments. Texas-fusion cuisine, such as the chef’s signature flourless chipotle chocolate cake, immerse guests in local tastes while cooking demonstrations and skills courses allow visitors to take a little bit of Austin home with them.

The Package: Includes accommodations, three chef-prepared meals, snacks, a daily spa service or off-property activity such as golf, and all on-property activities.

The Price: Starting at $480 per person, per night based on double occupancy, excluding taxes and service charges. The Grand Opening Special offers a 30% discount on mid-week stays, through May 28, 2011, subject to availability.

Travaasa Austin channels Austin’s musical background and Western roots in its range of activities and its furnishings to create an experience that reflects the culture of the Austin area. This is also evidenced in the property’s local and organic flavors delivered through its restaurant and culinary programming.

“Austin is one of Texas’ most iconic cities and our guests will get the real flavor of Austin and Texas through the myriad of activities, chef-prepared cuisine as well as the unbelievable natural setting of the Texas Hill Country,” said Larry Callahan, managing director. Callahan leads the way in the Austin experience for Travaasa guests by guiding novice harmonica players with live music lessons and a lively dance class on mastering the Texas two-step.

Travaasa Austin is sensitive to the needs of the environment including some endangered species protected within the neighboring Balcones Canyonlands Preserve. The hotel won a Treehugger’s 2010 Best of Green Award for “best resort.” The property’s green features focus on sustainable site selection, water efficiency, energy efficiency, sustainable materials and indoor environmental quality.
