Garrett Gilbert's brother Griffin is a playmaker for Austin Lake Travis

Earlier this summer, I had the opportunity to watch Austin Lake Travis compete in 7-on-7 at the Cotton Bowl. I had not the Cavaliers play before this but had obviously heard of their reputation.

I knew about the state championships and knew about former great players like quarterback Todd Reesing. But I didn't know any of the current guys.

As I watched, one player stood out. He was tall and lanky, a wide receiver. His arms were like yard sticks. Someone told me his name: Griffin Gilbert, the brother of the Texas quarterback.

And his 7-on-7 performances were certainly no fluke. This year, Griffin Gilbert has 1,111 receiving yards. Texas, Texas A&M and Cal are recruiting him.

He will be a challenge for Denton Ryan to stop.
