Parts of Lancaster County Finally Drying Out

The corner of Plum and Liberty Streets is one of the last spots in Lancaster city still underwater. As of Friday afternoon, the water was about 8 feet deep.

"If someone was stuck in there, they would be in big trouble," said 11-year-old Austin Yuninger of Lancaster.

Just outside of the city, the Conestoga River caused some concern. An area just off of the Walnut Street Exit on Route 30 was flooded.

Jeff Gray, owner of The Waterfront Restaurant on Millcross Road in Manheim Township was bracing for the worst. He cleared out all of the tables and some of the food in his place, in anticipation of high water moving in.

"If it covers the patio, we still have a couple of feet before it would even trickle into the building," said Gray.

The rushing water did reach the patio and parking lot, forcing the restaurant to close Friday.

Next door to the restaurant, apartment tenants were cleaning out a water logged basement. They say it looks worse than it is.

"In the last 10 years, we've probably had 6 floods, 4 substantial, this one is probably one of the minor ones," said Dennis Baker, tenant.

Lancaster County emergency workers say most flooded roadways were reopened Friday morning.
