In operation since 2007, The Gnarly Gar, a floating restaurant, bar, ship store, fuel dock and live music venue located in Point Venture, is the premier entertainment destination on Lake Travis.
Owner and operator Todd Hynes and his family have weathered some storms since The Gnarly Gar’s inception. Two floods, a historic Texas drought and even a tornado couldn’t stop them from providing the Lake Travis community with an upbeat, family-friendly environment that many neighbors and thousands of tourists count on when they want to unwind and have a great time. Todd attributes a large portion of The Gar’s success to the management and staff who have become family over the years.
With a newly renovated facility, The Gnarly Gar offers both indoor and outdoor seating in addition to a second level. The Gnarly Gar’s second level boasts a 180-degree view of beautiful Lake Travis and the hill country. With a full bar, large screen TVs, a pool table and a private balcony overlooking the water, Upstairs at The Gar is the perfect space for your celebration, corporate meeting, sports banquet, wedding, reception, and much, much more.
The Gar’s menu changes each season. Summer favorites include several fish entrees, salads and Peel-and-Eat Shrimp while the winter menu offers comfort food such as Chicken Fried Steak, Ma’s Meatloaf and Enchiladas. Consistent throughout the menus are Gar favorites, Garchos, Sandwich Cubano, the salty goodness of The Gar’s Fried Pickles, and what some refer to as “the best burger they’ve ever had”.
An attraction in their own right, The Gnarly Gar’s catfish have made a name for themselves. Featured on various YouTube videos for their sheer numbers and size, some reaching up to 50 pounds, the catfish patiently wait for guests to share their leftovers with them. Hundreds of open mouths float in the water in hopes a French fry comes their way. No fries? No Problem! The Gar Ship Store sells catfish food if you have no leftovers to share. The Ship Store also sells boat fuel, boat supplies, sundries, beer and wine to go and Gar merchandise.

Weekly events at The Gnarly Gar include Happy Hour, Thursday Night Trivia, Live Music on the weekends and Sunday Brunch. There is no better way to enjoy Sunday Brunch than on the water, with a Cross-Eyed Mary in hand and a cool breeze.
An annual, local tradition at The Gnarly Gar is their huge Halloween bash and in December, the Lake Travis Holiday Boat Parade takes place. These are two events you do not want to miss!
